The Gridley Company believes homes should be designed for their residents, regardless of age or physical/medical circumstances. As a result, we offer homeowners with special design needs the special expertise they require, including services are for individuals who have mobility limitations, special health needs or age-related needs. Generally, we can meet these special needs through ADA, Aging-In-Place, Universal design or Healthy Home design modifications.

ADA design modifications are generally the most visible, and include design details such as wider doors; ramps and lifts; special bath fixtures and grab bars; barrier-free designs; special counters and cabinetry; and levered door and fixture handles.

Aging-In-Place design modifications are focused on making homes more comfortable for individuals who are older and may face some mobility, flexibility, or dexterity problems, or other issues. These modifications help homeowners continue to live longer in the homes they love. Aging-In-Place design typically includes some ADA modifications, such as door levers and facet handles, more accessible cabinets, and bathroom alterations.

Universal design provides design features that center on making the home more functional and comfortable for individuals with some ADA or age-related issues, but in ways that do not generally present themselves as special modifications when you view the home. These might include taller toilets, easy-to-use door and facet levers, shelves that are not too high or too low, and so on.

Healthy Homes are designed for people who have allergies or sensitivities to certain materials, chemicals, indoor air quality and such. For example, people with respiratory issues may breathe more easily in a home that has hard floors, rather than carpeting. Those with chemical sensitivities may require certain types of flooring and other building materials that do not give off the chemical fumes that many building products do when they are first installed. Special air-infiltration barriers, HVAC and electronic air scrubbers might be necessary for someone with sensitivities to airborne allergens.

If you or someone who will use your home has special needs, please let us know so we can design your project with those comfort requirements in mind.

Please note that we are not health professionals and cannot provide you with medical advice. However, we would be happy to have your healthcare provider review and approve any of our decisions, plans, specifications, materials or product lists.
